October Marketing Mindfulness

Welcome to unLOCKEd’s Marketing Mindfulness Series!

In today’s hectic digital world, mindfulness practices can provide relief from the chaos when you can’t just shut it off. Mindfulness can benefit your personal and professional life, which we discussed in more detail in July’s Marketing Mindfulness blog. If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to check it out!

We are sharing one mindfulness practice a month to help you gradually implement mindfulness into your daily life. Trying to make a big change all at once can be daunting and frustrating, but with one small change each month, you can make a big difference!

October Mindfulness Practice: Mindful Communication

This month’s mindfulness practice is to communicate mindfully. Today, we are able to communicate in more ways than ever before. Email, text messages, app notifications, and the endless pinging from the phone create fast-paced and sometimes mindless communication. Of course, not every conversation has a deeper meaning, but being attentive, focused, and present can improve your relationships and communication outcomes!

Benefits

As we mentioned above, practicing mindful communication helps improve relationships and outcomes! Active listening and empathetic communication in your interactions with clients, team members, and stakeholders will help you to build stronger, more meaningful relationships. Those around you will feel valued, and you can connect with them on a deeper level. This will also improve the interaction, creating a better outcome as you can work together more effectively. These practices will make you feel better about your communication and allow you to get more out of it as you are present and focused!

How to Implement This Practice

Exercising your emotional intelligence through active listening and empathy is a great way to make your communication more mindful. Try to avoid distractions during conversations, even online ones. This takes away your focus and shows that you are not valuing the relationship – especially if you forget to finish responding!

You can also implement this practice in group settings such as meetings. Take a minute to gather your thoughts and prepare yourself before you enter the meeting or start talking to the group. This can make the meeting time more effective and ensures you are communicating information with intention.

Lastly, don’t forget about communication with yourself! Pay attention to the positive or negative self-talk you practice throughout the day. Being mindful of this allows you to reevaluate the negative thoughts and turn them into constructive criticism. This self-care can improve your work and your mental health!

We hope this mindfulness practice helps! Be sure to look out for next month’s blog to continue this series with us!
